The Protecting Power of Love

Considering this is Valentines Day week, I thought I would write a little on love. Love is something I am continually  learning about. How we show love, receive love, and give away love will determine the quality of life we live. That is a huge statement, so much riding on one thing. Well, let me explain what I have found to be true.

The Bible speaks of three types of love. Agapao love is the love Christ has for us. This love is devine. Agapao love isn’t an emotion we can have on impulse, turn it off and on. It just doesn’t work like that. It is described best in 1 Chorinthians 13:4-8 “4 Charity suffers long, and is kind; charity envies not; charity braggs not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Does not behave itself unseemly, seeks not her own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil; 6 Rejoices not in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 Bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Charity never fails: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.” When I read each verse, I see nothing but action, work and selflessness. Quite frankly our emotions would fight against most of these actions.

I realized something recently, without God’s ability to show this divine love towards me, I, myself would not be one day saved. Not only because of Calvary but because he loves me everyday, unconditionally and because of this, forgiveness abounds. Realizing this, makes me realize that love is the key to have quality of life. Love’s protecting power can save lives, enhance lives, and speak life to the hopeless. This thought spoke to me…..we must teach repentance, Jesus name baptism and the in-filling of the Holy Ghost, these precious things are required to make to heaven. That being said, In order to shut the back door, in order to keep them, we must have love. Teach in love, show in love, give in love, forgive in love and endure in love. Keep them by loving them as Christ loves you. How many times would all be lost if it wasn’t for Christ’s ever dying love, and the Godly love of other’s that he has placed in our lives. It’s that redeeming love that keeps us everyday. This is a daily fight and without Godly love we will cease to survive the battle.

We label ourselves as Christians so easily. It seems it is just a word used loosely in today’s society. But do we show Agapao love, do we have this type of love living inside of us? I think often, why does he love me so? Why does Jesus allow good gifts in my life? The only thing I can come up with, is that he loves me. Not only does he love me but he expects me to love with the same kind of love. A love where forgiveness abounds. To be that person that can see the end result, having the goal to allow other’s quality of life mean more than proving my point or speaking harsh words to feel better momentarily. Love is the key to quality of life, giving and receiving it. When your circle of people are able to live good lives, in return your life is much less stressed. Embracing people with a constant love, being kind, lending a helping hand or encouraging word speaks peace in your own life and speaks a life of protection into another’s. The rewards are priceless. On the other hand, wounding with words or actions brings hurt to others, and steals your peace as well. Wounded people are unable to live up to their potential. Why wound, why steal away quality of life from another for temporary satisfaction?

What is great about learning to be able to receive love is that you can give it on a greater level. If you stay guarded and never allow God or people to love you, you will not be able to have the courage to show love in the way Jesus would have you do so. Giving or receiving love doesn’t always feel like eating a bag of cotton candy. It takes work, sweat, and tears. No way do you just wake up one day and say, “I’ll endure all things peacefully from here on out.” It takes a relationship with God, understanding how to receive his love and the encouraging, strengthening love of others around you. None of us are an island to ourselves, and to give love unconditionally we must be able to receive love unconditionally. It’s a pattern, receiving gives us courage and understanding what true love is enables us to have courage to give it freely.

My desire is to love as Jesus loves. That is a BIG task, I know this, but he’s still working on me and as long as he is…. I get to grow. When I get frustrated with another, I can take a scan of me and I see brokenness, scars, wounds and blood stains of covered sins all over me, because I accept he simply just LOVES me, I will choose to simply just love. Because I need mercy, I must show mercy. So very thankful for the love of God in my life. I used to try to work so hard to earn his love but slowly learning he created me, he loves me and people he placed in my life love me as well, it is okay to be me. Thankful for my protecting circle of love today. I intend to keep growing my circle by showing His love through me.
